What is a Pedigree Chart?It is a diagram that shows the occurrence and appearance or phenotype of a particular gene or organism and its ancestors from one generation to the next, most commonly humans, show dogs, and race horses.

How does it work?The pedigree chart works how it's shown above. As you can see at the very top is the set of parents. The square represents male and the circle represents female. As you can see there is line that connects the two which move go down to the column "F1" (which represents generation 1) of all of their off spring. As you can see there 5 five of them, but some of them are colored in. Well going back to the parents the female is colored in. The fact when either the female or male or colored means they contain some disease. Let's take color blindness for example. Now since the parents had sex, their off spring will have the chance of either being clean or diseased. In "F2", you can see that on the left side has produced a offspring that is no diseased at all, and that's because both it's parents are clean. On the other side, as you can see is different. Since of the parents was diseased with color blindness it still run through their family tree and has passed down to the off spring of "F2".
